A 140-year-old Government Higher Primary School in Bengaluru got a facelift and went from a dilapidated structure into a bright colourful and hygienic space thanks to the public-private-partnership.

The Tamil Higher Primary School in Shivajinagar’s Thimmaiah Road now wears a new look having undergone a transformation at a cost of Rs.1.8 crore under a public private partnership with Inventure Academy, a private school off Sarjapur Road and funds from the local MLA.

The school previously cried for attention with frequent power disruptions, garbage mounds, poor hygiene, lack of toilets and had been an abode for drunk people.

The infrastructure was redesigned while being mindful to retain the original design of the heritage structure and was planned by the Indian Institute of Interior Designers.

The renovated school was officially inaugurated on Wednesday. The infrastructure upgrade is also now accompanied by an upgrade with the school also introducing English medium sections.

This is the second such initiative by Inventure. The first was when they adopted a government school in Ramagondanahalli near Whitefield in 2019. The upgrade pushed the admissions from 200 to over 1,000 students.

While MLA Rizwan Arshad’s funds of Rs.1.5 crore was used for the infrastructure upgrade, Inventure is appointing teachers, guiding with the pedagogy and has also shouldered the responsibility of operating the English Medium classes.

“After visiting the Ramgondanahalli school, the MLA took interest in replicating something similar in his constituency. Even I wanted to give back to society. I have been to the school multiple times as a child and have been seeing it up close even during the corporation elections. We chose this school as it was in a dilapidated condition,” said Nooraine Fazal, founder, Inventure Academy.
