Maharashtra: 120 hostels housing 25,000 college students on the anvil

The social justice department, Government of Maharashtra plans to build 120 hostels to house approximately 25,000 college students across the state. 

Speaking at the inauguration of the new buildings of the Bharat Ratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Boys’ Government Hostel and Sant Eknath Backward Class Boys’ Hostel in Mumbai, social justice and special assistance minister Sanjay Shirsat announced that the state government has earmarked Rs 1,200 crore for the construction of the hostels.

Shirsat said,”Education is a powerful tool for social, economic and personal progress. This hostel is not just a building but a resolution for the bright future of students. Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar’s message of ‘Learn and Organize’ is the real inspiration that gives us strength to stand on our own feet.”

Cultural affairs minister and guardian minister of Mumbai Suburban 

Ashish Shelar said, “Students can become IAS and IPS officers, judges, doctors, engineers, and after a few years, if a ceremony is held in these very premises, I would definitely like to be present on the occasion.”

Minister of state for social justice Madhuri Misal urged students to “seize the opportunity and work hard to fulfill the dreams of their parents.” She advised students to take up skills development courses.

MLA Tukaram Kate, social welfare commissioner Babasaheb Beldar; regional deputy commissioner (Mumbai) Vandana Kochure; assistant commissioner (Mumbai Suburban) Ravikiran Patil; assistant commissioner (Thane) Samadhan Ingle; assistant commissioner Raigad, Sunil Jadhav and assistant commissioner Varsha Chavan, were among those present on the occasion.
