Walkband (1)

Walk Band

Platform: Android, iOS

Age group: 8-12 years

This is a music studio app featuring piano, guitar, drum kits, and multitrack recording capabilities. It allows children to compose music with over 50 instruments. One of its standout features is capability to record multiple instrument tracks separately and then mix them together, giving users a mini studio at their fingertips.  Ads (removable via in-app purchases, (99) may require parental oversight.

Age group: 10-15 years

A free cloud-based music creation platform, Bandlab enables children to record and mix tracks using loops, vocals, and special effects. It offers hundreds of sound packs for creative compositions. A distinguishing feature is its Sampler, which lets users create beats using real-world sounds and royalty-free samples. Ideal for teenage children, its social sharing feature requires parental guidance to ensure safe collaborative usage. Some advanced features require a paid subscription.

This app blends music creation with interactive lessons, encouraging children to ‘learn, play, create and practice’ through over 60 game-based levels. Children can learn rhythm and instruments through structured online lessons. Its Mussila band adventure encourages children to complete musical challenges to recover lost instruments and costumes, keeping them motivated. The app is ads-free but subscription-based (Rs.699/month).

This app allows children to create beats with customisable drum pads and sound packs, helping them learn about beats and synchronisation. Its easy-to-use format encourages children to compose electronic music. The app also includes tutorials and step-by-step beat guides, helping children build musical tracks from scratch. With a free version and premium upgrades (Rs.599), it’s engaging, but may require parental supervision for in-app purchases.
