Choosing the elective subject in 12th standard is a matter of great concern for every candidate as it determines the course of their career thereafter. This creates a lot of apprehensions in the future job-seekers as their decision today would influence their tomorrow. As 12th standard marks the end of school life, deciding the courses and career options for commerce after that is quite difficult for every candidate. 

Before choosing commerce as an elective, one should be aware of the courses that you can opt for. This helps in further narrowing down the possible avenues. There are a number of courses for commerce students that you may pursue after 12th, some of these are Bachelors of Commerce (B.Com.), Bachelor of Economics (BE), Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), Journalism and Mass Communication, BA LLB, etc. Each of these courses offer a unique career option, so it is essential to decide the course wisely in order to build a smooth career in future.  

Popular Professional Courses After 12th in Commerce

Some of the popular professional courses that you may pursue after 12th in Commerce are:

Chartered Accountant (CA)

It is one of the most sought-after professional courses for building a successful career in commerce. Since CAs are required across industries, opens various doors to exciting career opportunities in diversified sectors. One can act as a Tax Consultant, an auditor, an advisor, a financial officer and much more by making a career in chartered accountancy. It is the best course after 12th commerce with high salary.

Company Secretary (CS)

They provide administrative support and guidance to company directors regarding the direction, management and control of the company. The Institute of Company Secretaries of India provides training to candidates aspiring to pursue CS. The institute conducts the CS programme at three levels- Foundation Programme, Executive Programme, and Professional Programme. 

Cost and Management Accountant (CMA)

One can do his/her own practice as CMA or hold managerial positions in public as well as private enterprises. CMA course is provided by The Institute of Cost Accountants of India or ICWAI. Certified Cost Accountants maintain cost accounting records, do cost auditing, helps in planning, controlling and costing of products.

Accountant:

Pursuing your 10+2 in commerce, finance or related subjects can help you pass the various accountant examinations you may give after completing your 10+2. Often, candidates with a diploma in accounting or related areas are eligible to become an accountant. 

Accountant Jobs Average annual salary: 2.6 lakhs per annum

Financial Analyst and Advisor

They play a key role in examining financial data and helping companies make business decisions. Pursuing a degree in finance after 12th in commerce is required for being a financial analyst or advisor. 

Average annual salary: 2.5 lakhs per annum

Investment Banking Analyst

They coordinate with company executives and investors and try to build cases for or against investments in specific firms or industries. For PG courses, one can pursue M.Com or MA in Finance or Economics or Pursue an MBA degree where investment banking is one of the specializations.

Average annual salary: 12 lakhs per annum

Tax Auditor and Consultant

To be a tax auditor and consultant, one should have a bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, finance, or a related field, from an accredited college or university. You might also consider an associate degree or advance to a master’s degree.

Average annual salary: 5.8 lakhs per annum

Human Resources

To pursue a career in HR, one can either opt for MBA with Human Resources as a specialization or pursue a certificate, degree or diploma course in HR. A course in HR can be pursued on a full-time or part-time basis through regular, online or distance learning mode.

HR Jobs Average annual salary: 7 lakhs per annum

Apart from these, one may also build a career in Law, Banking, Hotel Management, Fashion Designing, or opt for Government services after pursuing intermediate in the field of commerce. It is essential for the candidate to choose the career options based on their choice as the rest of their life will depend on it. Also, a lot of these career options in commerce can be opted based on the merit/marks scored in board exams, hence, it is important that our 12th results are on par with the stream that we want to pursue.
