Delhi govt launches three new curricula to blend academics with life skills

Delhi chief minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday launched three new academic curricula for government school students, describing the move as a step towards preparing children not just as learners but as future nation builders.

The programmes – New Era of Entrepreneurial Ecosystem and Vision (NEEEV), Science of Living and Rashtraneeti – were unveiled at the ‘Namo Vidya Utsav’, part of the ongoing 15-day Seva Pakhwada campaign, at Bharat Mandapam.

Calling the initiative “revolutionary”, Gupta said the new modules would integrate academics with entrepreneurship, civic responsibility and emotional intelligence. “‘Rashtraneeti’ will help shape responsible citizens, ‘NEEEV’ will train students to become job creators, and ‘Science of Living’ will foster compassion, resilience and emotional balance,” she noted.

Underscoring the role of teachers, Gupta urged them to support and retain students in higher classes rather than expelling them. “One flyover less can be built, but schools must be improved,” she said, assuring that no shortage of facilities such as laboratories, toilets or playgrounds would be allowed.

Education minister Ashish Sood, who was also present, emphasised that education must extend beyond academics to include civic sense, traffic awareness, digital responsibility and gender sensitisation. “The strength of a nation lies not in its buildings or military power, but in the character and values of its citizens,” he remarked.

According to the Directorate of Education, NEEEV will focus on financial literacy and innovation, Science of Living will draw on Indian knowledge systems such as yoga and ayurveda, and Rashtraneeti will promote constitutional values and leadership through youth parliaments, community projects and field visits. Training has already been provided to around 3,500 teachers and principals for the rollout of Rashtraneeti.
