It is natural to want to know the status of your job interview afterward, especially if it was a positive experience. It would be best to avoid a few pitfalls when following up with an email after an interview. In this tutorial, we will guide you on what is the best way to follow-up after an interview as a fresher if I haven’t heard back from the interviewer or HR of the company.

Steps to follow up after an interview

You can follow the below steps to get the feedback of your interview.

Send an email

If you haven’t heard from the hiring manager after 2-3 days of an interview. You can email them and mention something specific you appreciated or discussed during the consultation or thank them for the job interview opportunity. Politely ask about the interview results or next steps in the hiring process.

The follow-up note

If you haven’t received any response after the initial email, it’s okay to follow up again after about a week. You can express your interest in the job and inquire about the status of the interview and hiring process.

How to write a perfect follow-up email?

Start with a subject line

Ensure the subject line is clear, concise, and conveys the intended message. Use keywords like “Follow-up on [Job Title] Interview” or “Checking on Application Status for [Position]”.

Express gratitude

Start your email by mentioning the job title you applied for, then thank the employer for their time and express interest in the company and the job role.

Remind them of the value you can bring to the company

Use the email follow-up to show your interest in the position and highlight why you are suitable for the job. When reminding the hiring manager about the value you bring, be confident, persuasive, and humble.

Add contact information

Close your email by adding your signature and contact information. Include your email ID, phone number, and any other relevant details.

Remember not to come on too strongly, cultivate patience, prepare for the worst-case scenario, and not take rejection personally. It’s easy to take it personally if they hire someone else, but don’t handle it gracefully and reply to them politely, thanking them for the opportunity provided.
