Jindal Stainless has announced plans to train and upskill more than 500,000 MSMEs across India by 2030 through its Stainless Academy, as part of efforts to strengthen the stainless-steel value chain amid projected sectoral growth of 8–9 percent annually.

The company, India’s largest stainless-steel producer, said the initiative aligns with national programmes such as Make in India and Skill India, aiming to build a skilled workforce equipped for emerging industrial requirements.

Since its launch, the Stainless Academy has trained over 60,000 MSME fabricators, reached about 9,000 engineering and polytechnic students through specialised courses, and conducted multiple industry-focused sessions. Jindal Stainless Managing Director Abhyuday Jindal said developing human capital was central to supporting India’s industrial ambitions and ensuring a competent, future-ready workforce.

The Academy partners with institutions including IITs, NITs and polytechnics to run stainless-steel courses designed to ease students’ transition into industry roles. A recent collaboration includes an MoU with Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya, Vadodara, where classes on stainless-steel applications have commenced.

For MSMEs, the Academy runs hands-on fabricator training programmes covering fabrication techniques, design and quality standards, along with training for downstream industries. These are delivered through a mix of workshops and classroom sessions. The Academy also holds industry sessions on modernising operations and adopting digital technologies. Mobile training vans support outreach in various states through exhibitions and roadshows.

The expansion plan covers major stainless-steel clusters across Gujarat, Haryana, Delhi-NCR, Maharashtra, Bihar, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka and West Bengal. Jindal Stainless Director – Corporate Affairs, Vijay Sharma, said the upskilling effort was intended to support continuous learning as the industry adapts to new technologies and processes.

The Academy works with Sector Skills Councils, including the Capital Goods SSC and Iron & Steel SSC, and collaborates with NSDC-accredited partners to widen access.

Jindal Stainless said the initiative supports India’s wider goals of industrial self-reliance and competitiveness by building a workforce equipped for long-term sectoral growth.
